the sting of
broken Love
When did wounds become so great? When did hearts decide
That brokenness would rule the day, and love would be defied;
When did time begin to steal–the choice that could be made?
When did you decide that it was worth the trade?
The sting of broken love, oh how deep the pain—
There was much to give, and oh so much to gain.
But here we are, worlds apart, and all I can think of
Is what we’ve lost, and how much it cost: the sting of broken love
Why couldn’t you see beyond—the way you thought was right?
Why didn’t you understand, I didn’t want this fight?
I could’ve gained so much from you, if only you’d been free
To give and grow and love without those scars that you don’t see
The sting of broken love, oh how deep the pain—
There was much to give, and oh so much to gain.
But here we are, worlds apart, and all I can think of
Is what we’ve lost, and how much it cost: the sting of broken love
How can I guard this heart of mine, keep it safe but still;
Be free to love you in spite of this, and fight off the bitter chill?
Only by God’s grace alone, dare I hope for better things;
That in His time, good will come—to this I choose to cling
‘Cause the sting of broken love, oh how deep the pain—
But there’s still so much to give, and oh so much to gain.
Here we are, worlds apart, and all I can think of
Is what we’ve lost, and how much it cost: the sting of broken love
